Important Notes About the Clock Tower’s Indoor Environment

The Sapporo Clock Tower is a designated Important Cultural Property built during the Meiji era. The interior is preserved as much as possible in its original condition, which may lead to some considerations for visitors:

  • While fans and air circulators are available, there is no air conditioning. During the summer months (July–September), the indoor temperature may exceed 30°C on particularly hot days.
  • While eating and drinking are generally prohibited inside, hydration is allowed. A vending machine is available on the second floor.
  • Heating is provided in winter, but the temperature may not be completely comfortable. Visitors are encouraged to dress warmly during the winter months (December–March).
  • As there is no soundproofing, external noises such as sirens, car horns, or the hourly chimes of the clock may be audible inside.
  • Restrooms are located in a separate building (on the east side of the first floor, accessible via a short outdoor walkway).

Other Information

  • There are no coin lockers available, but large luggage can be left in front of the office on the first floor.
  • As noted, eating and drinking are not allowed inside, except for hydration purposes.
